About

With her ethereal voice, crystalline range, and lyrical dream-scape music, vocalist/composer Åsa Runefelt sings melodic explorations over vibrant harmonies. Her compositions blend the temperament of wistful Swedish folk music with influences ranging from tango and Duke Ellington, to Kenny Wheeler and Pat Metheny.

In the Boston and NE area, Åsa has performed at the David Chesnut Jazz Festival. She regularly sings at the Square Root Cafe jazz nights and she has sung at Carrollton Station and Snug Harbor in New Orleans. Upcoming performances includes Stockholm JazzFest in October of 2026, and the Menino Center for the Arts in December 2026.

Åsa has performed with Boston musicians Allan Chase, Jerry Bergonzi and Mark Zaleski on saxophones, Phil Grenadier and Jason Palmer on trumpet and flugelhorn, Maxim Lubarski and Doug Johnson on piano, Guiseppe Paradiso on drums, and Bruno Raberg and Fernando Huergo on bass.  She has recorded and performed with pianists Kevin Harris and Brian Friedland, bassists Oscar Stagnaro and John Lockwood, drummers Steve Langone and Austin McMahon, and New Orleans based tenor player Brad Walker and guitarist Brian Seeger.

In Runefelt’s debut album Night Flower, she brings you in close to the natural world. With lyrics about the quiet intensity of midsummer nights, through freedom and courage, Åsa offers listeners wonder, vulnerability, and the space to find yourself in sound.

Åsa Runefelt is born in Stockholm, Sweden, and is living in the US since graduating from Berklee College of Music, earning a BA in Jazz Composition.
